My ex and I have joint legal/physical custody of our daughter, and alternate weeks with her. The problem is, I am engaged to be married and intend to move, with my twin sons, to North Carolina from California. My fiance has been a police officer over there for 4 years now, has a 3 bedroom home, and is securely set up. The oppurtunities for myself and my children are unlimited. My ex is completely irresponsible. He lost the car to reposession, the house to forclosure, he has pending felony forgery charges against him and is a known alcoholic. This has all happened in the last 2 months. He threatens that I cannot take my daughter to North Carolina. I would like to see my daughter with me during her school years and with my ex, during the Summers. I am not even asking for child support. Can he keep her from leaving California, even though I can show he is not the most stable person? How can I protect my daughter from this ticking time bomb? Please help, my daughter loves her Dad, but shouldn't have to live his destructive lifestyle.
